Gonzales: Anti-drug programs ‘need’ church involvement
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
The Diocese of Bacolod yesterday confirmed they received a request from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to assist in “Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga” (Masa Masid), a barangay-based program to combat illegal drugs and other criminalities.
Diocese Social Action Center Director, Rev. Fr. Chris Gonzales, said they are currently studying where the church would fit into the program.
He noted, the diocese earlier received similar requests from the Bacolod City Anti-Drug Abuse Council and the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council.
“They need the involvement of the church,” Gonzales asserted.
Meanwhile, Gonzales also confirmed the city government would also participate in today’s Red Wednesday prayer rally, with the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) set to be lit up in red as a show of solidarity and acknowledgement of the thousands of persecuted Christians in the world./DGB, WDJ
