An off-duty security guard was nabbed by police after allegedly threatening a food stall owner at gunpoint in Bacolod City, late Saturday evening.

Police identified the suspect as Elmer Dalay, a resident of the city.

In an interview yesterday with Police Station 1 (PS1) commander, Police Senior Inspector Leo Estopa, he said one of the station’s members, identified as Police Officer 3 (PO3) Rommel Beato, was driving home when he spotted Dalay confronting a food stall owner, whom he did not identify.

As Beato approached the suspect, he noticed Dalay was carrying a .38 caliber revolver, prompting the officer to confront the assailant.

When Dalay realized Beato was a police officer, he tried to flee, although Beato was able to catch up and arrest him.

Cops recovered an unregistered .38 caliber revolver, along with several .38 caliber bullets.

Dalay, meanwhile, denied the allegations and claimed he was a security guard for a local bar in the city.

The suspect was formally charged yesterday with grave threat, resisting arrest, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Dalay is presently detained at PS1./DGB, WDJ
