Diocese of Bacolod spokesperson, Rev. Fr. Jonas Sumagaysay, said they are “happy” to receive support from the local Muslim community in their opposition to the proposal put forward by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez legalizing civil unions and divorce, which they consider to be “ungodly.”
“These proposed bills are not only highly immoral, but ungodly,” he declared.
Sumagaysay said their opposition is based in protecting the sanctity of marriage and the value of personhood.
Earlier this month, the local Muslim Brotherhood in Bacolod City joined the diocese in calling for the opposition to the civil unions proposal, claiming an equivalence to same-sex marriage.
Abdul Rasheed Espinosa, leader of the local Muslim Brotherhood, said, for Muslims, there are only two sexes, male and female; emphasizing, not male and male, or female and female.
He further noted, same-sex marriage is forbidden under scriptures of the Quran and the Holy Bible.
The local Muslim leader urged Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya to oppose the proposal in the House of Representatives and warned of repercussions if the proposal becomes law./DGB, WDJ
