Despite Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon recently expressing his opposition to the possibility of the Philippine National Police (PNP) returning to the anti-drug campaign, the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) affirmed they will comply with whatever President Rodrigo Duterte decides.
In an interview with Watchmen Daily Journal yesterday, PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, said they respect the senator’s comments, but will follow orders conveyed by the commander-in-chief.
The PRO-6 spokesperson said, since the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) took exclusive control of handling anti-drug operations, PRO-6 has focused on their enhanced management police operation program, which aims to curb criminality in specific operational areas.
Gorero noted, PDEA-Region VI (PDEA-6) Director Wardly Getalia had previously been in touch to seek assistance, but he explained the PNP can only provide limited support due to the administrative memorandum prohibiting them from engaging in operations.
Duterte earlier re-assigned all anti-drugs operations to the PDEA, following the deaths of several minors, including the heavily-publicized case of Kian Lloyd delos Santos./DGB, WDJ
