Acebuche: Most violators aware of illegality

By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) is actively conducting a crackdown on electric tricycles (e-trikes), which violate city traffic ordinances.
BTAO head, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, said, since July of this year, they have impounded at least 164 e-trikes.
Acebuche noted most violators were apprehended along the national roads, with a majority aware of the illegality since e-trikes are supposed to be used within the operator’s respective barangay.
He added, violators have to pay P100 to retrieve their vehicle.
Bacolod City Land Transportation Office (LTO) head Renato Novero, meanwhile, said it is illegal for e-trike owners to travel in the streets unless they register their vehicles with the LTO.
Novero added, e-trikes cannot be used for commercial purposes./DGB, WDJ
