Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) opened its new four-story, 20-classroom school building yesterday morning, which will cater to the school’s senior high school program.

NOHS Principal Mario Amaca said around 1,400 senior high students will take advantage of the new building.

He is also expecting another school building, which is under construction within school premises, will be completed before the start of the 2018-2019 academic year.

The buildings, he said, were constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Amaca stressed, they need new school buildings to become “operational,” as students have been falling ill after having to attend classes in the school’s gazebo and the Paglaum Sports Complex, which exposes them to the elements.

When asked if the new buildings would eliminate shifting class schedules, Amaca said shiftings would remain, citing a lack of around 50 classrooms.

He pointed out, other school buildings, constructed during the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos, would also be replaced by modern high-rise buildings with the DPWH scheduled to start bidding for the project soon./DGB, WDJ
