The number of loose firearms turned over to Police Station 5 (PS5) has reached 17.
PS5 commander, Police Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, said, after two barangay tanods visited his station on Sunday to turnover their improvised shotguns and a .38 caliber revolver over the weekend, more residents in the jurisdiction turned over their firearms.
Gabana said he is hoping more residents join in their campaign of getting rid of all loose firearms.
He speculated the 17 they have already received would grow before the end of the month.
Earlier, BCPO spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, urged city residents to surrender their unregistered firearms to the nearest police station as part of the BCPO “Kontra Boga” campaign, which seeks to rid the streets of loose firearms.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) is also conducting a similar campaign, with the latest taking place in Calatrava, where two explosives and one improvised shotgun were turned over to police./DGB, WDJ
