A 24-year-old man was rushed to a hospital after surviving an attempt on his life in Barangay 1, Silay City in Negros Occidental, early Monday morning.
Police identified the victim as Joey Arellano, a resident of Barangay Kapitan Ramon in the said city.
Silay City police lead investigator, Senior Police Officer 3 (SPO3) Enrique Jaranilla, said Arellano was walking with three companions when he was allegedly shot by 30-year-old Albert Malihok with a .45 caliber pistol.
However, Silay City police were conducting a routine patrol nearby and officers rushed to the area where the gunshot was heard.
As Malihok was about to fire again, his pistol jammed and the responding cops tackled him to the ground.
Arellano was rushed to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the back.
Jaranilla added, the shooting was reportedly done as revenge after Arellano’s group allegedly previously mauled Malihok.
Malihok faces charges of frustrated murder and illegal possession of firearms, and is presently detained at the Silay City Police Station./DGB, WDJ
