Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao will be in Negros Occidental until Thursday, November 16, for Bisita Sacada 2017, where she will observe the status of sugarcane plantation workers sent from her province to work on local farms, along with ensuring labor laws are being enforced.
According to Angeline Javier of the provincial government’s Sacada Desk, there are 422 workers deployed to eight haciendas in Kabankalan City and Himamaylan City.
She added, the governor will also be distributing medical assistance and food.
Back in August, the Antique provincial government allotted P2 million worth of livelihood assistance to sugarcane plantation workers.
At the time, Javier noted, laborers were provided with live animals, sari-sari stores, and “tri-bikes,” in addition to financial assistance.
Last year, laborers were provided with live animals, pump boats, tricycles, and assistance amounting to P1.8 million./PLL, WDJ
