A former purok chairman was gunned down by unidentified assailants at Purok Mahogany, Barangay Tapi in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, late Wednesday evening.

Police identified the fatality as 51-year-old Webby Argabio, a resident of the said barangay.

Kabankalan City police chief, Police Superintendent Rhea Santos, said the incident may have been triggered by a land conflict, as there are several people staking claims on Argabio’s land, which he is using for farming.

Santos said Argabio was shot repeatedly by at least four gunmen, who witnesses said were wearing bonnets.

She added, the station is still trying to identify the assailants./DGB, WDJ
