A minor, believed to be suffering from a mental illness, is suspected in the killing of her grandmother in Barangay San Miguel, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

La Carlota City Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) member, Police Officer 3 (PO3) Nineveh Mallorca, refused to identify the said minor, although she stated the incident happened last October 29.

Mallorca said 62-year-old Gaylen Samillano was found dead inside her home after sustaining a hack wound to the neck.

The minor was later surrendered by her parents at the La Carlota City Police Station last Sunday, where she was immediately turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Mallorca said they have yet to establish a motive behind the incident as there was no reported conflict between the two parties.

She noted, the decision has been left with experts to determine the true condition of the minor.

The police officer said they are currently awaiting the decision from the victim’s family if they will file a criminal charge against the minor./DGB, WDJ
