Bayan Muna-Negros Secretary-General Christian Tuayon said they will stage a protest ahead of the scheduled visit by US President Donald Trump next week, who will be in Metro Manila for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.
He said they are protesting the “constant meddling of the United States in the affairs of other countries in Asia” and is calling for the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte to ban Trump’s visit.
“We all know that imperialism is the brains in controlling the [economic] and political policies of the member-countries of these economic blocs, like ASEAN,” the secretary-general said.
He also blamed such economic blocs for slowing down the progress of the country.
According to Tuayon, the leaders of progressive groups in Negros Occidental will head to Manila in order to join ongoing demonstrations, while other groups in the province will conduct a protest rally locally./DGB, WDJ
