A misunderstanding between friends ended in a hacking incident along South Road Street, Barangay Poblacion 1 in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, early Sunday morning.
Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Emmanuel Manoloy, a resident of Purok 5 in the said barangay; while the suspect was identified as 21-year-old Ranie Bot-uy, a resident of Kabalawan Road, also in the said barangay.
An investigation by the Sagay City police reported the two were drinking when Manoloy asked Bot-uy to return home, which led to a misunderstanding.
Bot-uy later went home and returned a few minutes later with his wife.
The suspect proceeded to assault Manoloy with a bladed weapon, known as a “lantip,” before fleeing the crime scene.
Manoloy was rushed to the Sagay City district hospital for treatment, but was later referred to the St. Ann District Hospital in Cadiz City.
Cops recovered the suspect’s weapon and are still conducting a follow-up operation in order to pursue the suspect./WDJ
