Two people were confirmed dead, while another was seriously injured, after their tricycle collided with a delivery van along Abada Escay in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, late Saturday evening.
Police identified the fatalities as Joebert Ortiz, a resident of the said barangay; and Bernie Gerasmea, a resident of Barangay Granada.
The injured, meanwhile, was identified as Fortunato Sayson, a tricycle driver and resident of Barangay Granada.
Traffic investigators from Police Station 5 (PS5) said Sayson was travelling north and tailing a truck at the time of the incident. In an attempt to overtake the truck, he was hit in the rear by another tricycle, driven by Silverio Billones.
Sayson lost control of his motorcycle and crashed in front of the truck, resulting in the truck running over the tricycle.
Both Ortiz and Gerasmea were killed on the spot, while Sayson was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) for treatment.
Billones and his passengers, meanwhile, emerged unscathed.
The truck’s driver, whom police have not named, surrendered to Police Station 7 (PS7) in Barangay Mansilingan.
The driver may face charges for vehicular manslaughter, while his truck was impounded by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO)./DGB, WDJ
