The Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC), a major power supplier for the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco), affirmed there was no explosion or poisoning that occurred at their power plant facility in Concepcion, Iloilo, amid information being circulated by unidentified individuals.
According to PCPC, they received a statement on October 29 claiming there was an explosion.
However, the power company said no such incident occurred and the power plant has been shut down since October 21 for preventive maintenance works.
The company said what the residents might have witnessed was the outflow of ash from one of the facility’s ash chambers, which was being cleaned at the time of the incident.
They stated, residents might have mistaken the ash cloud as smoke.
As a precaution, PCPC representatives have since gotten in touch with the Concepcion municipal government and evacuated nearby residents.
The said residents were given free medical check-ups to make sure they were in good condition before being allowed to return home.
PCPC added, the situation at the power plant is back to normal and the scheduled maintenance should end by November 21./DGB, WDJ
