An unnamed police officer, who was facing a case before the Regional Internal Affairs Service regarding a gambling addiction, was found dead over the weekend after hanging himself inside an Estancia Municipal Police Station detention cell.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) confirmed the officer was 48 years old and was found dead on Sunday.

In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Iloilo, Police Chief Inspector Jonah Galicha noted the late cop was also accused of pawning his service firearm to fund his gambling problem.

Meanwhile, reports also claimed prisoners saw the officer carrying electrical wires, which were used in the suicide./WDJ
