Task Force Kasanag (TFK) recently called for an investigation into the alleged misuse of public funds by two EB Magalona barangay captains, along with several other barangay officials.
TFK national commander John Chiong did not directly name the public officials, although he said they are presently being investigated by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Chiong said checks amounting to nearly P500,000 were used by the two officials to fund personal businesses.
He said the broker for the two officials, whom he also did not name, came to seek their assistance as the broker was being pressured by a lending corporation.
Incidentally, the checks were not issued with accountant’s advice from Landbank of the Philippines.
Chiong said the involved barangay officials could be liable for violating RA 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, along with estafa.
The TFK leader added, he also forwarded a copy of the CIDG letter to the Office of the Ombudsman, in order to probe for possible administrative liabilities./DGB, WDJ
