One person is confirmed dead, while another was wounded, after they were shot by two unidentified gunmen at Hacienda San Ramon, Barangay Salvacion in Murcia, Negros Occidental, yesterday morning.

Police identified the fatality as Saldy Montes, a resident of Hacienda Linasan in the said barangay; while the wounded was identified as Ryan Tumpong a resident of Barangay Alegria in the said municipality.

Based on an initial probe by Murcia town police, the victims spent Saturday evening attending a wake in Barangay Santa Cruz.

As the two were riding back home, they were ambushed by gunmen, who were hiding in a canal.

Montes was killed on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body, while Tumpong was hit in the foot and was rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City for treatment.

Murcia police are still trying to determine the identities of the suspects./DGB, WDJ
