Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya recently announced plans to file a resolution before the House of Representatives to investigate the death of 17-year-old Archie Filonco Odsigue, who was shot by police during an operation.
According to police records, Odsigue was caught stealing several items from a scrap shop and tried eluding police. During the ensuing police operation, he was shot by Police Officer 2 (PO2) Ryan Sagon after his warning shot ricocheted and struck the teenager from Barangay Tangub in the head, killing him instantly.
Despite the police report, the congressman plans to coordinate with Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) director, Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, to further probe the case.
Gasataya said there is a need for “transparency” with the incident.
Meanwhile, National Police Commission-Region VI (Napolcom-6) Director Allen Camering said they will also coordinate with PRO-6 on the matter.
Camering said Sagon currently faces criminal and administrative charges over the incident, while Sagon’s commandant, Police Station 8 (PS8) commander, Police Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman, Jr., may be investigated on the grounds of neglect of duty./DGB, WDJ
