The Philippine Coast Guard Bacolod Station (PCG-Bacolod) has begun preparations for next week’s All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day travel.

PCG-Bacolod station commander, Lieutenant Senior Grade Jimmy Oliver Vingno, said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently launched “Oplan: Byaheng Ayos Undas 2017,” with the expectation of a high number of passengers at seaports.

Vingno said PCG will be on “red alert status” from October 28 until November 5.

Around 100 personnel from PCG, PCG-Auxiliary, and a small detachment from the Philippine Marine Corps will be deployed across various ports throughout Negros Occidental in order to ensure the safety of travelers.

K-9 units will also be used in order to detect and confiscate any contraband that could be smuggled, including illegal drugs.

Vingno advised those crossing to Iloilo or Cebu to purchase tickets early in order to avoid being placed on standby if tickets are sold out.

He also cautioned those planning a long vacation not to carry excess baggage.

Vingno added, all sharp objects such as blades, scissors, and knives are not allowed and will be confiscated by authorities./DGB, WDJ
