Police Superintendent Roderick Minong will remain as acting director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) until an order for his relief is issued, declared Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia during a press conference yesterday.
Despite holding the rank of superintendent, which does not qualify Minong to serve as a police director for a highly-urbanized city, the acting police chief said he plans to continue operating in his position and execute all duties.
A law enforcement official must hold the rank of senior superintendent, which his predecessor, Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky attained, however, he was reportedly relieved following an uptick of hold-up incidents throughout Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, Minong said at least 600 policemen who augmented security forces in the city throughout the MassKara Festival and for the arrival of President Rodrigo Duterte will remain in the city to heighten police visibility, intended as a deterrent to crime.
The rest will return to their primary unit./DGB, WDJ
