Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, in a press conference yesterday, said this year’s MassKara Festival was a success.
He, alongside Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) acting director, Police Superintendent Roderick Minong; City Administrator, Atty. John Orola; and BCPO spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, lauded the safety element of the event, noting “only minor incidents were recorded.”
One such incident occurred over the weekend, when an employee of the Bacolod City Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) was arrested after yielding a gun at an entry point to the festival site at the Bacolod City Public Plaza.
The mayor estimated at least 60,000 attended the celebration.
“We just don’t know where they came from,” he asserted.
Leonardia also credited the presence of President Rodrigo Duterte, who visited last Sunday, saying many people came for him.
The mayor also thanked law enforcement and other security forces in maintaining peace and order throughout the festival period./DGB, WDJ
