The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) reported a continuing drop in the Iloilo City crime rate, noting a 66 percent drop between October 16 and 22, 2017 as compared to the same period last year.
According to ICPO acting director, Police Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, there were 45 criminal incidents recorded last week, as opposed to the 133 reported between October 17 and 23, 2016.
He also noted, the city’s enforcement of the evening curfew for minors has also contributed to the drop in crime.
“Some 120 minors were rescued last week,” he said. “Strict enforcement of the 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. curfew ordinance, somehow, greatly contributed to the reduction of criminality in the city.”
The office previously reported a 38 percent drop in the second week of October, which was preceded by a reported 40 percent drop in the first week.
Last week, ICPO operations chief, Police Superintendent Jowel Saliba, credited the drop to “enhanced managing patrol operations, wherein we monitor the peculiarity of incidents per station.”/PLL, WDJ
