After Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III ordered improvements for the city’s Jaro Plaza earlier this month, City Engineer Roberto Divinagracia said the project should be completed by next week, on November 1.
Espinosa earlier ordered the installation of more lighting units, saying, “Good lighting prevents accidents.”
According to Divinagracia, some 20 LED lamps are expected to be installed throughout the plaza.
The mayor previously ordered the removal of illegal structures, which included kiosks selling ‘ukay-ukay,’ or second-hand clothing retailers, from Iloilo City’s Jaro Plaza and Mandurriao Plaza.
Following an inspection of the area, the mayor observed kiosks were “causing hindrance to pedestrians as well as motor vehicles,” which he said eventually results in traffic congestion.
In addition, according to Espinosa, there were unauthorized electrical connections made to the city government line in Jaro Plaza./PLL, WDJ
