The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) lifted the red tide advisory earlier this week after finding no paralytic poisons along the coastline of Gigantes Island, which is located within the municipality of Carles, Iloilo.
Last month, Carles Mayor Siegfredo Betita declared a State of Calamity over certain coastal communities, including Barangays Granada, Asluman, Gabi, and Lantangan, which make up the island.
A red tide is caused by an overabundance of a certain algae, which can discolor the water and be toxic or harmful to people, fish, marine life, and birds./WDJ
