The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO), based on recent data, reported a 19.8 percent drop in local dengue cases.
Between January 1 and October 7 of this year, the office recorded a total of 1,461 dengue cases in the city, a reduction from the 1,822 recorded during the same period last year.
Barangay Mansilingan recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 134, followed by Barangay Mandalagan with 110, and Barangay Taculing with 105.
According to CHO Environmental and Sanitation Division head, Dr. Grace Tan, the most recent dengue-related fatality was a four-year-old resident of the city.
“Most of the dengue fatalities are those who have been suffering from fever for several days and did not seek immediate medical attention,” she explained.
Tan suggested visiting the hospital and drinking plenty of fluids if suffering from a prolonged fever.
She added, the public should clean their surroundings in order to stamp out any breeding areas for dengue-carrying mosquitoes./DGB, WDJ
