During an interview with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) radio program, Negros Museum Executive Director Tanya Lopez encouraged the public to observe the ongoing Museums and Galleries Month by visiting a local museum.
“There are so many museums in Bacolod City and Negros,” she said.
“This is a great opportunity for museum workers, like us, that we set aside a specific month to celebrate our museums and galleries,” she added. “They play a very big role in helping our constituents and [the] public raise awareness on our culture and history.”
Lopez said museums uphold socio-cultural understanding and culture.
Among the permanent exhibits on display at the Negros Museum include the depiction of life prior to colonization, Cinco de Noviembre, the salakot exhibit, and Negros lifestyle and history.
She noted, the museum also works with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) in hosting workshops, seminars, and cultural presentations.
The Negros Museum, located along Gatuslao Street in Bacolod City, is open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
