Barangay Calumpang, in the Molo district of Iloilo City, recently took second place in the 2016 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Award (LTIA), which recognizes contributions made to the advancement of objectives of the Katarungang Pambarangay (KP), the barangay justice system.
The recognition also provided P150,000 for the barangay.
“They are also shortlisted as finalist in this year’s [National Search for Outstanding Lupon] award and will be validated on October 19,” said Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) city director, Atty. Ferdinand Panes.
“Among the functions of Lupon is to settle dispute among the people in the barangay to avoid the filing of cases in court,” he explained. “This will help the court de-clog the cases, somehow.”
Panes encouraged other barangays to follow the examples set by Barangay Calumpang./WDJ
