After approving the 2018 local disaster risk reduction management fund allocation earlier this week, the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) said 70 percent of the funding will go towards programs.
According to CDRRMO head Donna Magno, 70 percent of next year’s budget will be allotted for programs including CDRRMO operations, prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.
“[A] community-based monitoring system [for] households will also be a big help in gathering data,” she added.
The remaining 30 percent will go towards the calamity fund and quick response fund.
Meanwhile, Acting Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III highlighted the importance of necessary devices, including thermal scanning devices, which allow firefighters to see areas of heat through smoke, darkness, or heat-permeable barriers./WDJ
