The five members of the Cauayan Municipal Police Station who escaped a recent ambush by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) are in consideration for an award from the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6).

According to PRO-6 director, Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, following a briefing on the incident, he is happy to see the officers were not hurt and is considering awarding them for their accomplishment.

Last week, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, Police Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, Jr., lauded the five, Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Jeorge Anthony Lorrenton, Police Officer 3 (PO3) Turk Libo-on, PO2 Thom Amable Mamigo, PO1 John A. Mabayag, and PO1 Sunny Boy Llena.

“They didn’t fall back and instead fought off the 30 armed rebels,” he said.

All five officers survived the ambush unscathed, along with rescuing the three civilians trapped inside a sport utility vehicle, two of which were Swedish nationals./DGB, WDJ
