According to the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Negros Occidental has seen a total 25 dengue-related deaths between January 2017 and the first week of October.
Based on Negros Occidental Health Surveillance System (NOHSS) records, the most recent death occurred in Hinigaran. The town, along with San Carlos City, have recorded the highest number of dengue-related deaths in the province this year with four each.
The total number of cases this year has reached 2,977, although it is still lower compared to last year’s 4,827.
PHO added, most of the victims are children.
The agency also noted, a person who had previously been infected with dengue can be infected again as there are currently several strains of the virus./DGB, WDJ
