During yesterday’s PDP-Laban mass oath-taking at the Victorias City Sports Complex, which attracted around 10,000 participants, United Negros Alliance (UNegA) secretary-general, Negros Occidental Provincial Board Member Salvador Escalante, Jr., handed a resolution proposing a coalition between the local group and the ruling party to PDP-Laban secretary-general, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
According to the proposal, both partisan groups would pursue common goals towards the benefit of constituents in Negros Occidental.
The resolution also labels UNegA as the “dominant local party” in the province.
According to incumbent Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, a member of UNegA rival coalition, Love Negros, his national affiliation, the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), has an existing “working relationship” with the ruling party.
Last month, he announced the NPC would be looking to increase its party membership, a response to NPC chairman Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr., who told those at an NPC meeting in Pasig City the party needed to increase its numbers./WDJ
