The Commission on Elections (Comelec) halted all preparations for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections yesterday after President Rodrigo Duterte signed RA 10952, postponing the elections.
Based on a report by GMA News, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the poll body welcomed the signing, which rescheduled the elections from October 23, 2017 to May 14, 2018.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said many were expecting the postponement.
“Everyone will have to wait for the next schedule,” he said.
He added, Duterte’s move also relieved pressure on local barangay officials, who were confused if they should prepare for the polls or not.
Leonardia also welcomed the development as it would no longer distract barangay officials from this year’s MassKara Festival./WDJ
