The leader of the notorious Rondoy robbery group was caught in a police dragnet yesterday at 13th-Lacson Streets in Bacolod City.
Police identified the suspect as Alex ‘Rondoy’ Barredo, a resident of Antonio Luna Street, Barangay Mambulac in Silay City.
According to Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) acting director, Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, the suspect was caught by members of Police Station 2 (PS2), when Barredo was heading towards Purok Repolyo, Barangay 7 in order to conduct an illegal drug transaction.
Police officers converged on the suspect while he was aboard a motorcycle.
Police Officer 2 (PO2) Joash Bombat approached the Barredo, when the suspect pulled out a .38 caliber revolver and attempted to shoot the police officer..
The firearm, however, jammed and cops were able to arrest the suspect.
Authorities recovered the said firearm, along with five .38 caliber bullets, three elongated sachets of suspected shabu, and one apple-type fragmentation grenade.
The suspect admitted to being involved in a series of robberies in Bacolod City, Talisay City, and Silay City; along with claiming possession of the seized weapons.
Barredo is currently detained by PS2 and faces illegal drug charges, along with violations of the Commission on Election (COMELEC) gun ban.
Meanwhile, Wanky called on individuals victimized by the suspect to come forward./WDJ
