A man is in critical condition after accidentally blowing himself up with an improvised explosive device (IED) Sunday evening at Purok Kawayan, Barangay Magticol, Toboso in Negros Occidental.
Police identified the victim as 44-year-old James Yap, a resident of the said barangay.
Toboso municipal police said, around 7:00 p.m., the victim arrived home with the IED and was said to have engaged in an argument with his wife.
Yap later poked at the container that held the IED, when the device exploded, severely injuring his left hand.
The victim was immediately brought to a district hospital in Sagay City, but was subsequently transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) for further treatment.
Police are currently looking into why Yap would have such a device in his possession./WDJ
