Based on a recent report by the Negros Occidental Health Surveillance System (NOHSS), a division of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), the number of dengue fatalities in Negros Occidental has risen to 23.
NOHSS head Louie Fernandez said the latest fatality was a minor in Barangay 3, Victorias City.
San Carlos City tops the list of dengue-related deaths with four recorded between January and September of this year, followed by Kabankalan City with three.
Although the fatalities have risen, Fernandez still called it low, compared to the 26 recorded last year during the same period.
Earlier last week, Bacolod City released a report saying the number of dengue cases in the city has dropped by 20 percent.
Assistant City Health Officer, Dr. Jovie Vergara, said 1,281 cases have been recorded this year between January and September, down from 1,599 during the same period last year./WDJ
