Police gun down man with mental illness in Don Salvador Benedicto

A man reportedly suffering from mental illness was gunned down at Purok Mangga, Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental, by a police officer acting in self-defense on Tuesday.
Police identified the fatality as Danilo Loquero.
According to authorities, police responded to a call from Pastor Jason Estimo of the Maranatha Church, the suspect’s caretaker, who reported Loquero was acting violently.
Upon arrival, the suspect subsequently attacked Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Alfredo Chavez with a long knife, forcing the cop to respond.
The police officer suffered wounds to his neck and feet.
Chavez is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Bacolod City./WDJ
