Serving as guests for the Inter-Farmers Softball Tournament at the Hacienda Lourdes Ballpark in Manapla, last week, Little League of the Philippines (LLP) District Administrator, Atty. Jose Luis Gomez, and Assistant Administrator Chito Gonzales credited the municipality for fostering grassroots softball.

“This is what grassroots is all about,” Gomez said. “Using a sport to build a community, create an activity of play, and, as a natural consequence, add to the health and fitness of a barangay.”

Discussing the construction of a softball facility in the town, he added, “What impressed me most was there were already tournaments among the farmers, fishermen, workers, among others, being played.”

The LLP official suggested all cities in Negros develop such infrastructure, and for every sport.

By doing so, he said, “We will have achieved something more valuable than an Olympic gold medal.”/JSG, WDJ
