Ceres-Negros FC defeated Global Cebu FC, 1-0, in the ongoing 2017 Philippines Football League (PFL) at the Panaad Park and Stadium last night.

After the solid Ceres defense denied several opportunities for Global in the first half, the Negrense club took control in the second, with midfielder Stephan Schröck finding the back of the net in the 79th minute.

“It was a well-deserved victory,” said Ceres coach Risto Vidaković. “The players worked hard.”

For Schröck, who was named Man of the Match, he credited the club from Cebu.

“Breaking that solid defense was challenging,” he said. “I always say, Global brings out the best from us.”

Global Cebu and Ceres FC remain third and fourth, respectively, on the PFL table; however, the win put the Negrense side two points behind their opponents, with six games in hand.

Ceres FC will meet Ilocos United FC on Saturday, September 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the Panaad Park and Stadium./JSG, WDJ
