Groups, including left-wing Bayan and radical trade union Anakpawis, participated in an “indignation rally” yesterday in Iloilo City, part of the “National Day of Protest,” a commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by former President Ferdinand Marcos.

Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) reported protests were generally peaceful during yesterday’s “National Day of Protest,” a commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by former President Ferdinand Marcos.

“All rallies [and] protests ended peacefully with no untoward incident taking place,” stated PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Superintendent Gilbert Gorero.

Among the groups that gathered outside the Iloilo City campus of University of the Philippines Visayas (UP Visayas) and the Iloilo Provincial Capitol included the Panay chapter of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and democratic socialist group Akbayan.

In addition, the Dakila Iloilo Collective, a group geared towards “social change,” hosted an event at the Molo Plaza in Iloilo City called “Lost Lines,” a program intended to raise awareness about human rights./WDJ
