In the Cadiz City chapter of Redeemer Sports, a non-profit Filipino-American organization that partners with Christian churches to share both the love for sports and faith in Jesus Christ, after launching in July of this year, the number of basketball players who attend practice with the organization every Saturday grew from 38 to 48 within the chapter’s first two months.
With practice being conducted outdoors, in conditions that do not offer a roof over the players’ heads, Pastor Alvin Apostol, who serves as head coach, credited the players for their dedication.
“Ga reklamo sila kis-a, pero gina kaya gyapon nila para sa Gino-o ta kag sa lawas man nila (They complain sometimes, but they still do it, for God and for themselves),” he said.
Practice usually runs from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., beginning with a Bible study.
Apostol noted, the players often show up to practice before he does.
It was previously reported, Redeemer Sports currently also has chapters in Bacolod City and Victorias City, with hopes of expanding to Murcia./WDJ
