Tropical Depression Maring Iloilo City evacuation centers set up

Due to the presence of Tropical Depression “Maring,” the island province of Guimaras was barely visible from the Fort San Pedro area of Iloilo City, yesterday.

Amid the heavy rains from Tropical Depression “Maring,” Iloilo City Administrator, Atty. Hernando Galvez, announced evacuation centers had been set up to take in displaced families affected by flooding.

As of 7:30 p.m., yesterday evening, the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) recorded 181 evacuated families from the Jaro, Arevalo, and Mandurriao districts.
The Iloilo City government also suspended classes at all levels.
Meanwhile, Guimaras Governor Samuel Gumarin also canceled classes between preschool and high school levels.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Iloilo Station also temporarily suspended boat trips between Iloilo City and Guimaras three times throughout the day, yesterday./WDJ
