Motorists and pedestrians alike have a negative view of government agencies and claim they provide poor service. However, with President Rodrigo Duterte in office, who insists on order throughout the country, that view of how a central government operates will be one only of the past decades.
Upon assuming office, the president saw many problematic agencies, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) among them. He decided to do away with the nonessential personnel, where there were too many; and spare those in indispensable positions, a very few.
Taking the case of LTO-Region VI (LTO-6), which covers Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras, a new regional director was appointed, who has since imposed discipline.
Today, there is ongoing monitoring of motorists and when a violation is committed, they are apprehended – for this region, the agency is not a concern.
LTO agents are performing in compliance by the mandate sat by the president and are instilling discipline on the roads throughout Negros Occidental and Bacolod City; and those who complain about the roads are those who seek to violate laws.
The attitudes of drivers, particularly influential personalities who express their arrogance when caught by LTO agents, some even looking to politicians to save them, still remains prevalent.
