After Isabela conducted its first town convention, which ends today, Mayor Joselito Malabor said, over the weekend, he will be printing educational material regarding federalism, which will be distributed throughout the town’s barangays.
“Personally, I want the creation of the Federal State of Negros,” he stated.
The mayor noted, those gathered for the convention plan on endorsing a resolution passed by the local town council supporting a shift towards federalism and the creation of the aforementioned state.
Malabor believes federalism will empower local government units to “learn to generate local resources.”
Earlier, Hublag Federalismo convenor and incoming Presidential Assistant for Economic Concerns Mary Jane Locsin said it will be up to the Negros congressional delegation whether the now-defunct Negros Island Region becomes a state if the country transitions to a federal form of government./WDJ
