The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed, during its regular session last week, a resolution congratulating Mary Angeline Alcantara for her recent gold medal win in the 44-kilogram division at the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships, held in Egypt last month.
According to the resolution, the 13-year-old Alcantara of Barangay Estefania “demonstrated exceptional talent and high standard of mastery and technique.”
The document went on to say Alcantara “showed the international competitiveness and excellence of Bacolodnons.”
Alcantara was one of two Negrenses in the Philippine contingent. Arianne Espida of the Negros Taekwondo Union competed in the 37-kilogram division./WDJ
