The solid waste action team of Bacolod City will meet with the 61 barangays this week to talk about the schedule of garbage collection in relation to the implementation of “no segregation, no collection” policy starting September 1st.
The segregation policy to be implemented by the city is in compliance with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, head of the action team, said penalties await violators.
He added, before Sept. 1, he will meet with barangay leaders to schedule the collection of garbage.
“It is just a matter as to what kind of garbage will be collected,” Familiaran stressed.
He encouraged the barangays to conduct a massive information dissemination.
Under the law, it is the barangays that must conduct an information drive because they are the frontliners, Familiaran emphasized.
He said they must be proactive for they are the implementer of the law. This will also be one of the issues to be taken up this week in a meeting with the action team, Familiaran noted.
He also said the implementation of the “no segregation, no collection” policy is all systems go.
The action team will distribute flyers to every household. They have already finished the conduct of the Information Education Campaign, Familiaran said./WDJ
