Motorcyclist dies in Silay City road collision

A motorcycle driver was killed following a collision with a truck along New Diversion Road in Santa Maria, Barangay Rizal, Silay City, Negros Occidental, Friday morning.
Police identified the fatality as 25-year-old Dante Panes, a resident of La Purisima Concepcion, Barangay E. Lopez in the said city; and the suspect as 29-year-old Jumar Panuncial, a resident of Barangay Libertad, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Reports released by police said Panes was driving southbound on his motorcycle when he collided with the truck after crossing into oncoming traffic, in an attempt to overtake the vehicle ahead of him.
Panes received injuries to his head and was sent to the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH) in Silay City for medical treatment, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Panuncial is now being temporarily held in the Silay City Police Station and could face vehicular manslaughter charges./WDJ
