Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) President Roy Cordova yesterday said electricity cooperatives across the country will unite against the privatization of power utility firms during the upcoming Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives (Philreca) convention, to be hosted by Ceneco at the SMX Convention Center at SM City Bacolod from September 30 to 31.
He claimed, if privatized, power utility firms would be more profit-oriented, rather than service-oriented.
“The power industry is a lucrative business,” said Cordova.
Over 1,500 officials from across the country are expected to attend; along with Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, and National Electrification Administrator Edgardo Masongsong as guests./WDJ
