The Philippine little league softball team, the Bacolod City West Little League, bannered by the Education and Training Center School III, earned their first win of the 2017 Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon in the United States.
The Negrense squad, representing the Asia-Pacific region, defeated the Latin America region, represented by Softball Femenino de Coamo Little League of Coamo, Puerto Rico, 2-1.
Both teams came into the matchup winless; however, the Philippine side quickly took the advantage in the game, scoring a run in both the first and second innings.
The Latin America region managed to pull one back in the last minute, at the bottom of the sixth.
Angelica Cordero, who came in as a relief pitcher in the Asia-Pacific side’s previous game against the Southwest region, represented by Lake Air Little League from Waco, Texas, started the game against the team based in Puerto Rico.
After pitching a total of 12 innings in the tournament so far, Cordero has allowed 16 hits and four earned runs./WDJ
