Man dies in Canlaon City shooting

A man was killed in a shooting incident by an unidentified suspect at the Midtown Public Market, Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, early Tuesday morning.
Police identified the victim as 20-year-old Rodel Laparan, a resident of Angas 1, Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.
The Canlaon City Police Station reported Laparan was sleeping in the sari-sari store he owns, located at the said market, when an unidentified suspect, wearing a black hooded jacket and armed with a .45 caliber firearm, stepped inside the store and shot Laparan twice.
Laparan was struck in the right abdomen.
The suspect fled while bystanders rushed the victim to the Canlaon City District Hospital for immediate medical treatment, although he later succumbed to his wounds.
Police recovered two empty .45 caliber cartridges at the scene.
Canlaon City Police Station is still conducting a follow-up investigation./WDJ
